Raising Taxes in these Economic Times is a Recipe for Disaster

The Administration's proposed FY 2010 budget calls for at least $400 billion in new taxes and fees on the oil and natural gas industry.  With America in the midst of an economic recession, now is not the time to impose new taxes.  According to a preliminary estimate from the Center for American Progress, 48,000 American oil and gas jobs annually would potentially be destroyed by the Administration’s proposed taxes increases.  New taxes hurt business, threaten our nation’s jobs, and could result in higher prices to consumers, all of which would form a recipe for disaster in this economy.
