The Government is Delaying Access to New Domestic Energy Production
The government is still delaying access to new sources of oil and natural gas at a time when we need to produce more domestic energy. Even though Congress opened access to areas on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) in 2008, the government, specifically the Department of the Interior (DOI) Minerals Management Service (MMS) still needs to lease these areas for development. This leasing process, however, was delayed when U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on February 10, 2009 extended the time to finalize a new 5-year leasing plan for OCS lands. We need access now - America’s vast offshore resources could create new jobs, greater energy security and revenues.
