North Carolina Jobs

The oil and gas industry already supports more than 146,000 jobs in North Carolina, and these jobs add almost $12.4 billion to North Carolina’s gross state product, or 3% of its wealth.

And North Carolina does not currently produce oil or natural gas.  These are jobs that are indirectly generated by oil and natural gas industry activity.  So imagine how many ADDITIONAL jobs could be generated if we developed the rich stores of energy that are on and off the shores of our state.

Developing our state’s energy resources would put even more North Carolinians to work, and would be a great asset to the community, driving the state’s economic and energy security.

The new jobs would be good, well paying jobs, both directly and indirectly associated with the industry.  These include jobs not just in exploring, producing, refining, transporting and marketing oil and natural gas, but also through the purchases the industry makes of other goods and services that support operations. Equipment suppliers, engineers, construction companies, management specialists, and food service businesses are all a strong link to the industry. These businesses, in turn, purchase other goods and services that support other jobs throughout North Carolina and the nation, generating further economic activity.

The oil and natural gas industry currently supports 9.8 million jobs nationally.
